Settlement Mission

School Settlement Association was founded in 1901 and is one of the first Settlement Houses established in the city of New York at the turn of the century, and the only remaining original Settlement House in the borough of Brooklyn. The School Settlement Association is a non-for profit organization funded by the city and state of New York and by private donations. Our mission is to provide comprehensive educational, social and recreational services to the Williamsburgh/Greenpoint community. We are serving more than 800 youths annually.

The Harlem School of Capoeira:

The Harlem School of Capoeira was formed after workshops, tournaments and seminars in Brazil during the summer of 2002. Prof. Max L.G. Ferreira, Prof. Hammad S. Taalib-Din Jr and Prof. RamonInga are the founding teachers.
