MEET THE ARTISTS
The Power of Mask Theater
Established during the 16th century in Italy , Commedia dell'Arte has become one of the greatest forms of mask theater and improvisational comedy, providing a powerful means of expression for actors on stages around the world. Taking the acting principles of Commedia dell'Arte one step further, the Brooklyn-based Black Moon Theatre Company has created technique called expressionistic realism that is also rooted in physical gesture and emotion. Led by Artistic Director Rene Migliaccio and co-founder Lori Vincent, the company emphasizes the use of trance-like body movement and facial expressions rather than the actual words the actors speak. We are thrilled to welcome Black Moon Theatre Company to the Meet-the-Artist series. In this hands-on and interactive program, students will explore creativity through movements and gestures.
